The paintings represented on the calendars and note cards of The Foundation were created by Nick Nakon at age 12. Extremely proud of her son’s artistic gifts, Karen worked with Nick on his drawing for several years before arranging for him to take lessons from Kay Klonk of Maine Light Studios in Avon Lake. For many years, Nick has worked with Kay to develop his talents and has created beautiful nature scenes which he paints using acrylics. When he was just 5 years old, Nick drew a remarkably accurate picture of Bugs Bunny in the back seat of the family car. Thinking that his wife had done the drawing herself and was playing a joke on him, Matt Nakon—Nick’s Dad—quickly gave Nick another piece of blank paper and said, “Do it again.” When a second, equally accurate drawing of the cartoon character made its way to the driver’s seat, Matt was convinced it was no joke and that his son had an amazing gift. In 2005, Nick was selected as one of Cleveland Magazines "Most Interesting People". We are proud to see that, in their words, Nick "piqued their curiosity". Nicholas has created numerous original works to benefit his mother’s Foundation. He does so as a tribute to Karen and to help raise funds to fight the disease which claimed her life. We are pleased to share these beautiful scenes with you and thank you for your support of the Karen P. Nakon Breast Cancer Foundation.
